Koch International Classics Turns 10

Koch International Classics recently celebrated its 10th anniversary with a party at the Steven Gang Gallery in New York City's Chelsea Gallery district. Food and drink were accompanied by performances by three Koch artists: The Aureole Trio, cellist Maya Beiser, and pianist Sara Davis Buechner.

Over the past ten years, Koch's dedication to American music has earned them numerous awards including 4 Grammy Awards: in 1991 and 1993 for Best Contemporary Composition - Leonard Bernstein Aria and Barcarolles and Samuel Barber The Lovers; in 1994 for Best Vocal - The Art of Arleen Auger; and in 1993 for Best Classical Producer - Michael Fine. They have received 5 additional Grammy nominations: 1993 - Best Album Notes and Best Historical Reissue - Cole Porter in the 1930s - You're the Top; 1993 - Best Contemporary Composition - Ellen Taaffe Zwilich - Flute Concerto; 1995- Best Contemporary Composition - Ellen Taaffe Zwilich - Symphony No. 3; and 1997 - Best Instrumental (w/o orch) - Alan Feinberg - Charles Wuorinen. Koch has also received the Deutsche Schallplatten Preis for their 1992 release of Elmer Bernstein's The Magnificent Seven, 3 NAIRD / AFIM Indie Awards (1991 - Classical Music - Copland - The Tender Land, 1993 - Classical Music - Women's Philharmonic; and 1995 - Soundtracks/Cast Recordings - Elmer Bernstein - The Magnificent Seven; 5 NAIRD / AFIM Indie Awards Honorable Mentions (1993 - Classical Music - A Chance Operation - John Cage Tribute, 1997 - Ensemble Classical - Diamond Settings, 1997 - Soundtracks/Cast Recordings - Miklos Rozsa - El Cid, 1998 - Solo Classical - Lucy Shelton - Carter and Stravinsky Songs, and 1998 - Orchestral Classical - Karol Rathaus Orchestral Works), and 2 GLAMA 2000 nominations for best solo classical recording: Anthony de Mare - Oblivion (Piazzolla and Nin) and Sara Davis Buechner - Complete Solo Piano Works of Miklós Rózsa.
