As Part of Copland 2000, the celebration of the centennial of Aaron Copland's birth, "Fanfare for the Common Man" will launch 24-hours of programming and live worldwide television broadcasts from the global nexus of New Year's celebratory activity: Times Square, New York. The event begins on Friday, December 31, 1999 at 6:30 AM, Eastern Standard Time. Times Square 2000, the Global Celebration at the Crossroads of the World is the largest New Year's Eve celebration in Times Square's 95-year history.

The event also marks the debut of a fascinating new computer music technology developed by Don Buchla - The Virtual Orchestra. Composer/inventor Forrest Tobey of Baltimore's Peabody Institute will lead the Virtual Orchestra - literally 'conduct' a computer - in a performance of Fanfare for the Common Man.
