MEET THE COMPOSER AWARDS NEW RESIDENCIES GRANTS TO FOUR AMERICAN COMPOSERS
New Residencies Program
New Residencies is a national program of Meet The Composer that supports partnerships among composers, professional arts institutions, and community-based organizations with four primary goals:
- To nourish the musical craft of resident composers through ongoing composition for host institutions;
- To engage composers in a broad range of arts, community development and human service activities through the Presentation of new works;
- to establish partnerships that nurture and strengthen a sense of community among local organizations that can be sustained and replicated after the residency program is completed;
- and to increase the programming of new American works and build audiences for American music and organizations committed to their presentation.
Since 1993, Meet The Composer's New Residencies program has supported 25 three-year partnerships, bringing composers to communities from Alaska to North Carolina. Participating arts organizations have included orchestras, jazz and folk ensembles, choruses, chamber groups, opera, dance, and theater companies and such community groups as schools, youth agencies, churches, synagogues, and volunteer service organizations.
The deadline for the next round of New Residencies proposals is September 8, 1999. For information or applications, call Meet The Composer at 212/787-3601 or Email mtc@meetthecomposer.com
Leadership support for New Residencies is provided by The Pew Charitable Trusts. Additional support is provided by the Ahmanson Foundation, the E. Rhodes and Leona B.
