Charles Ives Fellowship: Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez
Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez is on faculty at San Francisco State University. He earned his undergraduate degree from the Universidad de Guadalajara, masters degrees from Peabody Conservatory and Yale University, and a Ph.D. from Princeton University. Among his teachers were Henri Dutilleux, Jacob Druckman, and Martin Bresnick. He has been honored by the Guggenheim, Fromm, Rockefeller and Camargo Foundations, the Tanglewood Music Center, the U.S./Mexico Fund for Culture, the National Institute of Fine Arts of Mexico, UNESCO, the Fulbright Commission, BMI, and the National Fund for the Arts and Culture of Mexico. He has had commissions from ASCAP, the American Symphony Orchestra League, the Fromm Foundation, the Barlow Endowment, and Carnegie Hall. His music appears on CRI, Capstone, Pueblo, Teldec International, Alebrije, Equis, Princeton and UMMUS labels and is published by Ediciones Mexicanas de Música.
