Favorite 2012 musical moment:
This year, Gaudete Brass worked with producer Judy Sherman and engineer Bill Maylone to record our newest CD, Chicago Moves, under the Cedille Records label. A crucial part of this process was the recording space: Goshen College’s Sauder Concert Hall. Starting each long day warming up there was a very calming and almost ethereal experience–I will never forget it.
New Year’s Resolution for 2013:
This is my fourth year living in Chicago, and there are so many restaurants, galleries, museums, and venues that I still haven’t checked out. This will be the year of exploration! My to-do list includes Girl & the Goat, Aviary, Spertus Museum, and to see Belleville at the Steppenwolf Theatre.
Looking forward to in 2013:
In April, Gaudete Brass is celebrating John Corigliano’s birthday with a performance of newly commissioned works from his students. The composers are Steven Bryant, Jeremy Howard Beck, Conrad Winslow, and Jonathan Newman. I can’t wait to dig into these pieces!
