When the economy gets tough, the arts get creative. United States Artists has introduced a new microphilanthropy site enabling artists to connect with the public and raise money for their creative endeavors. A crowdfunding site focused on artists in all creative disciplines, USA Projects profiles projects of artists nationwide and allows the public to make direct a tax-deductible donation. You can view active projects and explore this community here.

In addition, USA has also announced this year’s recipients of their fifty, $50,000 USA Fellowship grants for artistic excellence, including four winners in music. They are:

  • Uri Caine, jazz and classical pianist and composer (New York, NY, USA Walker Fellow)
  • Gabriela Lena Frank, pianist and composer (Oakland, CA, USA Walker Fellow)
  • Rob Ickes, Dobro player (Franklin, TN, USA Cummings Fellow)
  • Guy Klucevsek, accordionist and composer (Staten Island, NY, USA Collins Fellow)

Additionally, music critic and journalist Greg Tate was also so honored.
