Our cats celebrated, our dogs celebrated. We think our in-laws were there too, but you know how cute the cats are—they can be distracting.

And so we had Christmas. Did you hear the tinkly sounds?

Aside from some classic(al) criminal activity in the headlines and what we can only call a freak case of non-seasonally disaffected orchestra musicians, it was a fairly slow news week in blogland. What with Santa watching and list-making and such, no one was taking any chances.

Sure, there was the terrifying media consolidation move and the odd RIAA lawsuit to get our mouths going at cocktail parties, but basically we swilled egg nog and typed about the usual horror show that is the modern ADD audience (or is it?!?) and the substandard quality of recordings these days. Apparently, you can get the kids to the movie theater, but don’t even think about forcing them to sit through a concert. Unless Hannah Montana is going to be there. More notes on the obvious can be found here.

So, did you get any good CDs this year? A friend of mine got a copy of that Paul Potts album from a well-meaning relative, but it could have been worse—so much worse.

Elsewhere composer-bloggers were celebrating the season and honoring their heroes in their own ways. Also, they were jockeying for position, because what is a new year without a bunch of new LISTS!!

Lists from London, from Los Angeles, from San Francisco, from Miami, and from New York.
Depressing lists.
Imaginary lists.
Frighteningly thorough lists.
Lists that hate lists.
Lists for Franz Liszt.

Tired of lists? Try listening to the list. And turn it down, would ya?
