Gadget of the Week

Fakes and forgeries leaving you disillusioned with music? We could just leave it to the machines….Yeah, didn’t think so.

Much of the musical blogosphere has been wearing out their mouse pads this week keeping on top of Hattogate. Could this be the first instance of plagiarism in classical music recording?

Also not making the rounds on cable news (because if we turn our attention from hip hop, it might shoot us!), James Tenney kicks some butt in the “most annoying song” contest. Clearly the judges were “embracing the marginality” of new music, or I suspect Celine Dion would have mopped the floor with Jim. I shudder to think what Charles would have to say to either of them.

Opera in the City of Angels is perhaps unsurprisingly looking towards the silver screen for inspiration—but The Fly?! Though if the competition is The Grapes of Wrath, which opera will you choose?

If you’re still crushing on vinyl like a few people we know, these photos are for you. If you’re one of those “death of the album” people, however, here’s a last stroll down memory lane.

Friends and colleagues have been falling down all over the place with the nasty winter flu making the rounds, but I had no idea it could take down an entire orchestra. Be drinking your Emergen-C, folks.
