Music Alive 2011-13 Residencies Announced
Meet The Composer and the League of American Orchestras have announced awards totaling $325,000 to five composers and five orchestras who will participate in the 2011-13 Music Alive program. Now in its eleventh year, Music Alive encourages the commissioning and performance of music by living composers and engagement with composers by funding composer-in-residence programs. The five residencies beginning in the 2011-2012 season are:
- Gabriela Lena Frank with the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra (2 seasons)
- Steven Stucky with the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra (1 season)
- Andrew Norman with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project (2 seasons)
- Mason Bates with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (1 season)
- Avner Dorman with the Stockton Symphony Association (1 season)
Meet The Composer and the League of American Orchestras provide financial support to Music Alive residencies and offer technical assistance and professional development services. The residencies range from three weeks to two years. Orchestral organizations and composers who wish to work together submit applications jointly. An independent and distinguished panel of composers, musicians, and orchestra officials makes the final selection of participants.
