This year’s MacArthur Foundation “genius” grant recipients were announced earlier today. Among the four music-related prizewinners are The New Yorker music critic Alex Ross, jazz saxophonist and composer Miguel Zenón, violinist Leila Josefowicz, and composer-instrument builder Walter Kitundu. Each recipient receives $500,000 in “no strings attached” support dispersed over the next five years. A complete list of the 2008 fellows is available on the MacArthur Foundation’s website.
